Love for photographing the great outdoors - nature, wildlife, people, cultures and spaces - has inspired me to embark on a new journey, creating Photosafaris.

I have traveled extensively in India & abroad, almost exclusively with my camera. My years of travel have helped me gather a wealth of knowledge and experience.

My own little eccentricities have also fuelled my learning. For example, I am fascinated by the moon. I have spent many nights simply observing the moon and its path, the time it takes to move across the sky, what position it is at what time on a particular night, and its appearance. I have done this sometimes with, and many times without a camera, simply a lone observer. I then planned some architecture and landscape images around this. From this quirk, some of my personal favourite images have emerged.

The thought of creating Photo safaris occurred to me about 5yrs ago. I was browsing through the net & came upon a site that offered photo safaris in & around the US. These were specifically designed keeping the avid travel photographer in mind. The season, time of day, lighting conditions etc, were all taken into account, to ensure the best conditions for photography. That is when I knew what I wanted to do with my photography knowledge & the vast travel experience that I had gathered over the years. I wanted to share this with every individual interested in adventure travel photography. Putting in over 5 years of extensive travel and research, I have now created my own brand of Photosafaris.

I now invite you to travel with me and discover your own passions and eccentricities and to tell your own story through your lens.

Join us on journeys to some of India’s most fascinating locations, with experienced guides to show you how to capture these places, their people, cultures and wildlife on your camera.

Earth to Sky offers two types of Photo safaris.

First, we have 12 to 15 day expeditions. These are for the relaxed traveler with time on hand, anyone who would like to travel & shoot extensively.

Second, we have short, 3-4 day trips. These are designed keeping in mind all those individuals who live a very hectic urban life but would like to pursue their passion for photography and travel over a long weekend.

What is a photo safari?
Unlike other tours and adventure camps, Earth to Sky Photo Safaris are designed specifically for outdoor photography and related travel. This involves spending more time at locations, and a more in-depth exploration of the places, people and wildlife along our journeys. Creating the image you have visualized in your mind’s eye involves waiting as long as it takes, or even revisiting the same location, to get the right light, right timing and right mood. Only when all the elements of nature work together is the perfect image created.

On our photo safaris, you will spend more time on the field creating images, observing nature and discovering your own photographic interests and style. We will not be shuttling from place to place everyday, trying to squeeze in some photography.

The groups are out at sunrise and sunset to capture the wonderful soft lighting. Of course, we have relaxed afternoons when the light is harsh. Photographers leading the journey

Equipment

The gear you carry will depend on your own photographic interests and the gear you own.

Even a compact camera with a good zoom (200 mm or close) would do, but a Digital SLR camera is ideal.

Below is a list of DSLR equipment to consider:

Camera body. 2 is ideal , so you need not change lenses and interrupt your shooting
Long telephoto lens- zoom or fixed -500mm (or longer if your interest lies in wildlife, birds etc)
Medium telephoto—180 to 200mm, for example, an 80–200mm zoom.
"Normal" lens (50 mm), possibly with macro feature, or a 35–70mm zoom
Wide angle lens—20 to 35mm or the equivalent zoom
Macro lens (105mm or 200mm)
Tripod or monopod for your long lenses. Alternately, bring along a soft pillow.
Flash—strobe with automatic TTL fill flash capabilities
Lens tissue and cleaning fluid
Blower ball for dust
Circular polarizing filter
Camera battery charger and cords
Extra batteries (lots of them)—they are best packed in checked luggage, especially when traveling abroad
Swiss Army knife—always packed in checked luggage
Plastic bags as rain cover
Large napkin or cloth to cover your camera throughout the journey. It works to protect your equipment from dust while you’re not shooting
Cable or electronic shutter release

Other Required Equipment
Compact Flash Cards (minimum two 4 GB cards)
Compact Flash Card Reader
Laptop computer with enough storage space ( Alternately, an external hard drive to store images)
